Killer Bats of Love
(listening to Dave Alvin, the Blackjack David album)
unbearable crimes against humanity
just got their second wind
here they go
turning the corner
this race'll be over soon
war of aggression just signed its renewal lease
hallelujah
we'll get that barbecue going now
gonna take the rest of the species off
killer bats of love
they be hanging upside down
waiting for their cue
lots of empty comfortable seats waiting for the crowd
some even have rsvp'ed.
maybe the traffic just got to be too much
maybe they forgot to turn their clocks back
the big holy book of What I Meant to Say
just got edited down into What You Thought You Heard
alone, we encourage ourselves to somehow connect up
my skin does not know your name
but my heart knows where you live
killer bats of love
lost their memory
wandering they go
waiting still for any cue

in some incorrigible movie
(listening to robert schwartz live)
some go to heaven
some can't spell hell
some sold me a quicksand
some said i could read them some braile
downtown isn't where and what it used to be
someone glued shut my dictionary
some go to therapy
some go to war
some take over the world
and claim they ain't sore
but the dark rooms get larger
and the village idiots seem to be in control
come and whisper your real name in my ear
shaking my arm out
so it can catch your heart
the last train out can't remember where you hang
i'll be singing about you down at the depot
welcoming the rain
some go to college
some go to jail
i'll be tossing some salad
i'll be shaking my arm out
so it can catch your heart
in some incorrigible movie
the extras learn to tell time
i went out to get some popcorn
shook my arm out
caught your heart
the movie is more corrigible
and even the slow get there in the end.
