HAPHAZARD BOULEVARD
place mats at every water trough
rumors of real rain
could you tell that kid to stop bitching
he gives my right ear pain
huh? that weren't no kid...it's me?
sorry, will do better next time...
Grace under Pressure
just got out from under it and has hurt ribs
maybe I'll help it to the doctor's
get an x-ray
learn a trade
they got the grand marshal leading the parade
down Haphazard Boulevard
we used to be somewhat young
and our hair got in our eyes
now the clarity sends you running to the medicine cabinet
we sort of got accustomed to ducking
we sort of got big
bumping up against each other
at the flea market on Haphazard Boulevard
today, someone no doubt is having a birthday
tonight, the fire refuses to go quiet
someone said they saw us
connecting when we least felt we could
right there, naked, cold, on the dancefloor
of Haphazard Boulevard
a lot of men and women they want to be remembered
most of them don't clear the door
a lot of women and men claim they see us
let me clean these glasses
The Man with the Plan, he climbs onto the roof
begins singing gold bullets
that plop down onto Haphazard Boulevard
they got our return address on the next tune
they got retractable feet and summertime moods
today, someone, no doubt, is having a birthday
you and me, we shoot up out of the cake
nobody has time to diet on
Haphazard Boulevard.
